The Codfish House in Lisbon is widely praised for its authentic Portuguese cuisine, particularly its exceptional bacalhau (salted cod) dishes, which are noted for their rich flavors and generous portions. Guests appreciate the elegant and welcoming atmosphere paired with professional and friendly service, including English-speaking staff who enhance the dining experience. The restaurant also stands out for its thoughtful wine selection that complements the meals well. While the location is slightly removed from Lisbon’s center, visitors find it worthwhile. Minor issues, such as occasional presence of flies, are rarely significant enough to detract from overall satisfaction. Desserts, especially the chocolate pudding, receive special mention as a delightful conclusion to the meal.

Food was pretty good. Staff also was very nice. Grilled codfish was really good and you should try it. There was a little bit fly problem but did not not bother too much.

The place exudes elegant and chic vibes. The waiters speak good English. The servings were big, and a dish may be shared by 2 persons. I recommend this place. As with any resto in Lisbon, they serve good wine.

I had an amazing experience at A Casa do Bacalhau! Everything was perfect, from the warm and professional service to the beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. I’m usually not a big fan of seafood, but I truly enjoyed the food here. It was absolutely delicious, served at the perfect temperature, and full of rich, authentic flavors. Every detail, from presentation to taste, was spot on. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lisbon and looking for the best bacalhau experience!

Bacalhau (pronounced bakaˈʎaw in Portuguese) is dried and salted cod, considered one of the most iconic staples of Portuguese cuisine. The Portuguese often joke that they have 1001 ways to prepare bacalhau, reflecting both its popularity and versatility. I wanted to try a variety of bacalhau dishes, and a Portuguese friend living in Lisbon recommended a place where we could do just that. We ordered two of the roughly 30 bacalhau options: the very popular Bacalhau à Brás (€25) and the classic Bacalhau Assado (€26). Fantastic—our palates were more than satisfied. For dessert, we had baked pear in port wine with cheesecake, followed by uma bica (espresso coffee). All of this came to €68. I can confidently recommend this place, and I’m sure that if I ever return to Lisbon, I’ll definitely come back to try more varieties of bacalhau.

Very posh place, although quite far from the centre of Lisbon. We had Bacalhau a bras for the first time and I highly recommend. They also have a wide selection of wine and the staff is ready to help you to choose. Make sure to try their chocolate pudding dessert as well - absolutely worth it even if you're full :))

The ambiance of this restaurant is lovely! Making a reservation was easy and readily available. The food was delicious. We ordered the rosemary cod and also the cod with asparagus risotto. Both dishes were outstanding. The wine selection was a bit hit or miss. We had to order three different Vinho Verde before one we had picked was available. The wait staff wasn’t amazing. We had a few people that checked one us, some kinder than others. It didn’t kill the experience but one star less because of it. I wish they would’ve assigned us the English speaking waiter from the get go. Although we speak Spanish as well. Overall, I do recommend it. The food was amazing! P.S. the bread and olives they have waiting for you at the table are not a courtesy, they’ll charge those.

I had the chance to visit this restaurant recently, and overall, I really enjoyed the food. The dishes were genuinely delicious and beautifully prepared. I also really appreciated the generous portion sizes, both the starters and mains were more than enough, making it a great place for sharing. I’d definitely return just for the food alone. The ambiance was also lovely, with tasteful decor that made the space feel warm and inviting. However, I did find the service to be a bit of a letdown. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, yet it was quite difficult to get the attention of the staff. Even with a raised hand and calling out politely, we were often overlooked. We had to call them over several times to place our order, to ask for basic things, and even to get the bill. It just felt like the attentiveness and customer care weren’t quite up to the standard you’d expect from such a nice place. That said, if the service improves, this would be a truly top-notch dining spot. I’m still glad I visited and would return for the food, but I hope the team becomes a bit more attentive in the future.

The best! The go to place for any cod dish. The roasted cod was delicious and the service was absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant sits on an ancient 18'th century important noblesman's palace's stables, which adds to the prestige of the already regal restaurant. A worthy stop for everyone craving some refined, classy, old school dining in Lisbon.
